About GEOFROST

Company

Geofrost is a geotechnical contractor delivering solutions based on ground freezing and competence about frozen soil. Clients are both owners, contractors, and consultants. We have solutions for public owners with infrastructure projects, hydro power companies with rehabilitation tasks, large and small contracting companies needing to get something in place down in the ground and consultants who need assistance. Our focus is solutions based on ground freezing technology to aid works below groundwater level.

Geofrost is an independent and privately owned limited company, with main office in the city center of Oslo. The company has a fleet of containerized equipment which can be mobilized worldwide for freezing with brine and/or nitrogen. Geofrost has its workshop and storage facilities outside Oslo, with large space for development, testing and preparation of equipment.

Central approval

Geofrost is approved by the Norwegian Building Authority for liability under the Norwegian Planning and Building Act, with the following role, area and grade:

  • Design and engineering – Geotechnics – Grade 3
  • Independent control – Geotechnics – Grade 3
  • Contracting – Road and Earth Works – Grade 3

Grade 3 corresponds to the highest reliability class in EN 1990/Eurocode. Picture: GEOFROST is approved for liability under the Norwegian Planning and Building Act.

ISO 9001 and 14001

Geofrost has implemented and maintains a Quality and Environmental Management System which fulfills the requirements of the standards NS-EN ISO 9001:2015 and NS-EN ISO 14001:1015.

History

The company was founded in 1986, had its first contracting assignment in 1987 and first contract abroad in 1988. In 1993, the world's first ice plug was demonstrated in a 50 m2 water tunnel and in 2001 the company's quality system was ISO-certified.

Head of discipline is dr. ing. Anne-Lise Berggren. She has her education from NTH, (now Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU), with Professor Janbu as supervisor for the Ph.D. works, which established an engineering model for frozen soil design.
